Comprehensibility 4 Very comprehensible. The student uses appropriate language to convey the main ideal clearly. 3 Comprehensible. The message in this writing is unclear in places. The language used is inadequate to make the message totally clear. 2 Somewhat comprehensible. The message could only be understood by a sympathetic native speaker. The language used is often inappropriate or distorted by interference from English. 1 Incomprehensible. Organization and Presentation 4 Well organized and presented in an appropriate format. The order is logical and effective, and sequencing words are used consistently and appropriately. The presentation helps communicate the main idea. 3 Generally well organized with a few minor problems. The writer uses adequate sequencing words with few mistakes. 2 Poorly organized. Order is illogical and confusing in places. Incorrect use of sequencing words and the presentation from the main idea. 1 Inappropriate presentation. The lack of organization distorts or completely obscures the main idea. Accuracy 4 Functions, grammar, and vocabulary, are used correctly. Spelling, capitalization, and punctuation are generally correct. 0-5 errors. 3 Any mistakes in usage are minor and do not distort or inhibit communication. Mistakes in spelling, capitalization, and punctuation make the item incomprehensible. > 10 errors. Effort 4 Exceeds the minimum requirements of the assignment and provides evidence of thoughtful input. 3 Fulfills the minimum requirements of the assignment and provides evidence of thoughtful input. 2 Fulfills the minimum requirements of the assignment but does not show evidence of thoughtful input. 1 Does not fulfill the minimum requirements of the assignment.
