Tasks

Audition-

The student will sing up to three pieces or excerpts of pieces that we have rehearsed in class. The student will be given a starting chord and pitch and will sing the excerpt alone or with the piano. This same procedure will be followed for each excerpt.

The student may also be asked to sight read a short melody. The student will be given time to look over the notes and rhythms. The student will then be given the tonic chord and starting pitch and will sing the melody alone in rhythm.

Self Evaluation-

After the audition the student will evaluate their performance using the Audition Score Sheet which is identical to the form the teacher is using to evaluate the audition. The student will turn in their form and it will be attached to the teacher’s form. A brief discussion may follow if their are any large discrepancies between the two forms.

In order to make the process clear to all students a mock audition will be performed in class before the actual audition day. The mock audition will follow the same procedures as the actual audition , but it will not count for choir placement.
