Music Standards - Elementary

4th/5th Grade - developed by Katie Coyle

Content Standards
1. Students will sing a variety of music expressively with attention to breath control and tone quality.
2. Students will sing in groups with attention to pitch and blend.
3. Students will read and play melodies/rhythms on instruments.
4. Students will create short pieces using instruments and voice.
5. Students will demonstrate their understanding of the instruments of the orchestra.
6. Students will improvise rhythmic and melodic accompaniments to known melodies.
7. Students will analyze and describe musical examples using musical terminology.
8. Students will evaluate musical performances.
9. Students will compare and contrast musical styles and examples.
10. Students will analyze music and its relation to history/culture.
11. Students will experiment with rhythm and melody in terms of movement.

Process Standards
1. Students will be productive in a group.
2. Students will express ideas clearly and effectively.
3. Students will provide peers with constructive feedback.
