Making a Contact Sheet

Standards

  • Process black and white film in the classroom
  • Use a manual 35mm camera to take photos
  • Demonstrate proficiency in photo terminology and equipment
  • Students will work effectively with others in small group settings
  • Students will identify and analyze processes and problems encountered in photography
  • Students will show responsible care of equipment

    Objectives

  • Learn the parts of the enlargers and tools needed in the darkroom
  • Learn how to care for negatives
  • Learn how to make a test strip of a contact sheet
  • Learn how to make a contact sheet
  • Learn the characteristics of a good contact sheet

 

Assignments

All assignments and self-evaluation rubrics must be included in the comprehensive binder.

  • Cut negatives into 5's and store properly in sleeves in class binder
  • Label negatives
  • Complete terms sheet on tools needed in the darkroom for creating a contact sheet
  • Create a test strip in small groups
  • Create a contact sheet of your group negatives in small groups
  • Complete a journal entry
  • Complete a self-evaluation and a group evaluation

Contact Sheet Assignment Sheet

Assignment:
In small groups, make a test strip and complete contact sheet of your negatives. The group needs one contact sheet to hand in. Keep the group negatives and contact sheet in the class binder. If you need reminders on how to make a contact sheet, see the poster in the darkroom.

Criteria for a contact sheet:

  • Labeled by photographer
  • Fully processed
  • Correct values - #'s show, holes are black, film = charcoal
  • In focus - used proper tools
