35mm Camera

Standards

  • Use a manual 35mm camera to take photos
  • Demonstrate proficiency in photo terminology and equipment
  • Students will work effectively with others in small group settings
  • Students will identify and analyze processes and problems encountered in photography

    Objectives

  • Learn the descriptions of the functions of a manual camera
  • Be able to identify the parts of a 35mm manual camera
  • Learn what makes a good photograph

 

Assignments

All assignments and self-evaluation rubrics must be included in the comprehensive binder.

  • Fill in an empty photocopy of the camera, labeling the parts
  • Complete worksheets on aperture, depth of field, and shutter speed
  • Take a quiz to identify the parts of a camera
  • Take a dummy roll of film, in small groups, and keep a log, to get familiar with the functions of the camera
  • Take a roll of 35mm black and white film on point of view, and keep a log of shots, with a small group
  • Complete a journal entry
  • Complete a self-evaluation and a group evaluation

Using a Manual 35mm Camera - Point of View Assignment Sheet

Assignment:
In small groups, take a roll of 35mm black and white film.

Subject Matter:
Point of View - Take a simple subject, use what you know about composition and photograph it from 3 different points of view. Birds eye view, worm's eye point of view, and "regular."

Process:
Each person will shoot one subject three times, while another group member keeps the log. Student will rotate camera use so everyone has an equal number of shots. Each student will write in the log while another member is taking the photos. Place your initials behind the log entries you have written.

Camera Care:

  • Remember the proper technique for holding a camera
  • Do not touch the lens
  • Do not lose the lens cap or your group will be charged $5

Hints:

  • Keep it simple, use the rule of thirds, take your time, *no toilet shots
  • The light meter must be in the middle - NO EXCEPTIONS
  • Use the aperture and shutter speed together
  • NEVER let your shutter speed go below 60x

 

Criteria

  • Photos in focus
  • Demonstrates knowledge of D.O.F./ by using aperture correctly
  • Follows subject matter criteria
  • Keeps a complete log
