Metaphors for Japanese Borrowing
As we learned, the Japanese people borrowed
first from China and later from Europe. You will now work in groups
of three to apply your knowledge by creating metaphors for Japanese Borrowing.
You will create three metaphors, one which relates to a household appliance,
one which relates to a clothing item, and one which relates to a food
item. Each of your metaphors must be backed up by three reasons
explaining why you chose the item.
Make sure that you:
- use butcher block paper and markers
- include three metaphors; one household
appliance, one clothing item, one food item
- provide 3 well-reasoned arguments for
each of your metaphors
- draw a picture of each metaphor
Use the following basic formula:
Japan's borrowing from foreign countries
is like a _____________ __________________ because:
1)
2)
3)
Be prepared to present your metaphors!
- Youngest: brainstormer (thinks
up new ideas, encourages others to think)
- Oldest: artist (draws and writes)
- Middle: runner (collects materials:
butcher block paper, markers)
