Letter to the Qianlong Emperor
You are an assistant to King George III
of England and you have been given a letter from the Qianlong Emperor
addressed to your King. As His Royal Consultant, you have been asked
to respond to China's emperor. You and your partner will write a
letter to the Qianlong Emperor. You will work with a partner to
ensure the most forceful yet diplomatic letter possible. In
your letter, you will identify 3 examples of the Qianlong Emperor.
In your letter you will identify three examples of the Qianlong Emperor's
isolationist views. Then you will include three examples of England's
imperialist policies towards China.
Make sure that you:
- type a minimum of a one page letter
- use complete sentences, excellent grammar,
paragraph structure, correct spelling
- write an opinionated letter (Do you
like the Qianlong Emperor?)
- write forcefully yet diplomatically
(appropriate language)
- identify and explain three examples
of the Emperor's isolationist policy
- provide an overall explanation of why
his policies are bad for England
- identify and explain three examples
of England's imperialist policies towards China
- provide an overall explanation of why
England's policies are good for England
Be prepared to read your letter to the
class!
