Landlord Wang Essay and Debate

Task

Description

We will be preparing for a debate regarding the livelihood of Landlord Wang.  You will read the story of "Stone Village" and answer the following two questions:  1) Should Landlord Wang have been hanged?  2) Provide five reasons why or why not.  We will go over the homework together in class.  You will then type a one page five paragraph persuasive essay.  Upon completion of the essay we will debate the question in class.

Expectations

There are three parts to this assignment.  Make sure that you:

A.    Reading Homework
    1.    Read "Stone Village"

    2.    Completely and thoroughly answer the two homework questions:

        a) Should Landlord Wang have been hanged?

        b) Provide five reasons why or why not?

B.    Persuasive Essay
    1. Type a one page five paragraph persuasive essay

    2. Use paragraph structure, complete sentences, excellent grammar and spelling

    3. Write an introductory paragraph which includes:

        a) a hook

        b) a well written thesis

    4. Write three body paragraphs which include:

        a) introductory sentence for each paragraph which clearly explains your supporting point

        b) detailed evidence

        c) at least two quotes from article (cited)

    5. Write a conclusion which:

        a) restates thesis

C. Debate
    1. Articulate whether or not Landlord Wang should have been hanged

    2. Defend your opinion orally with three different arguments

    3. Listen and respond to other students
