American Exchange Student in Japan

Task

Description

You have just finished your first month in Japan.  You are spending your sophomore year as an exchange student in Tokyo and are adjusting to life with your exchange family.  You feel like you have neglected your friends and family back in Cary or Fox River Grove, IL and are prepared to write a long letter home.  You will use CulturGrams and the Internet to research what life is like in Japan so that you can give them a full report of your experiences!

Expectations

    1) Research is acquired by using CulturGrams and/or the Internet

  • Be prepared to hand in at least two pages of notes from research with the letter
    2) Make sure that you write about the following categories:
  • a comparison of Japanese vs. American population size
  • a comparison of Japanese vs. American country size
  • a description of Japanese customs (for example; visiting, eating, dating)
  • a description of Japanese popular culture (for example; fashion, music, comics)
  • a description of two Japanese holidays you celebrate
  • a description of the Japanese school system
    3) Make sure that you hand in a two page typed grammatically correct letter in paragraph form.

    4) Make sure that each of your paragraphs addresses one of the above required issues.
