Task: To analyze and critique various floor plans and present results in written and oral form.

Task overview: The students will be with their architectural design companies. Each group will be given two very different floor plans. One plan is very architecturally sound, while the other is a very poor design. The students will have to analyze each of the floor plans and be able to give reasons why they believe one design is good and one design is bad in an oral presentation.

The Good and Bad Floor Plan (Student Handout)

Scenario: You are sitting at lunch with your buddies at your firm when your boss suddenly comes running into the lunch room. Your boss needs you and the other members of your firm to do a special project. Your team has to fly out to California right away to start working. What you will be working on is a project that has already been designed, but needs to be revised to meet building codes and regulations. Your group must first decide which floor plan meets the most codes and regulations. You then must revise that plan so it meets all codes and regulations. You have the option when you get all revisions made to take it to an inspector to verify that it meets all codes. Your boss promises that if you do a good job he will give you a raise (a good grade). Also, if your revised design meets all code, you will recieve a nice bonus (extra credit).
