Task #5: Good Word Choices - Adjectives


Standards: Students will write using good word choices.
Students will equally contribute ideas in a group.
Students will encourage others.


Task: Whole Group and Partner Activity - Good Word Choices - Adjectives
- Discuss the difference between a good word choice and a bad one (good word choices help paint a picture in someone’s mind) and give examples:


BAD Word Choice
(a.k.a. Garbage Can Word)

GOOD Word Choice

small

tiny, miniature, petite, miniscule

red

crimson, ruby red, rosy



- Put them into groups of three or four. Have them complete the worksheet titled “Adjectives!” in which they take a BAD word choice and replace it with four GOOD word choices.

- While they are working, assess them with the Group Work Rubric.

- Come back together as a whole group and share their GOOD word choices.


Criteria:

1. Contributing Ideas - Students should equally contribute in the group.

2. Encouraging Others- Students should encourage others in their group.
