Task #3: Organizing Facts and Writing a Topic Sentence
Standards: Students will be able to recall and list information
about a particular topic.
Students will be able to organize information prior to writing.
Students will be able to write a good topic sentence.
Task: Independent Activity - Putting the First Two Steps
Together
- This activity should be done on the last day of the week.
- For this activity, the students will practice recalling facts, organizing
them, and writing a topic sentence for each.
- The students need to pick three subject areas for which they can
recall a lot of information about. For each one, have them follow this
process:
- recall facts about topic and list them
- narrow down the topic
- fill out the organizer
- write a topic sentence that is informative and interesting
Criteria:
1. Recalling Facts - Students should have a comprehensive list of accurate
facts learned about a particular subject area for the week.
2. Organizing Facts - Topic should be focused on one idea.
- Facts about the topic should be organized logically.
3. Writing a Good Topic Sentence - Topic sentences should reflect the
main idea of the paragraph, should be informational, and should be interesting
(makes someone want to read the paragraph).
