Task #12: Peer-Editing for Punctuation, Capitalization, and Spelling


Standards: Students will edit sentences for punctuation, capitalization, and spelling mistakes.


Task: Peer-Editing for Punctuation, Capitalization, and Spelling

1. Introductory Activity - Review of Punctuation and Capitalization Rules

- Review the rules of punctuation and capitalization.

- Have the student practice following the rules of punctuation and capitalization by doing a variety of review worksheets.

2. Peer-Editing Writing Pieces for Punctuation, Capitalization, and Spelling

- Have the students exchange their paragraphs from Task #11.

- Have the students use a red pen and edit for punctuation, capitalization, and spelling mistakes.

- Collect their paragraphs and assess their editing skills with the Editing Checklist #2.


Criteria:

1. Peer-editing - students will identify a majority of the punctuation mistakes
- students will identify a majority of the capitalization mistakes
- students will identify a majority of the spelling mistakes
